In 1996, on November 1st, the Argentine Association of Cognitive Therapy (AATC) invited colleagues from Brazil (Bernard Rangé, Paulo Knapp and Cristiano Nabuco de Abreu), Chile (Augusto Zagmutt and Roberto Opazo) and Uruguay (Raquel Zamora) to participate in the 1st Latin American Symposium in Buenos Aires/Argentina, with the aim of bringing together cognitive therapists from this region and promoting spaces for dissemination, development and theoretical and clinical exchange. This meeting was considered the foundation of ALAPCO, and a few years later it became known as the First Latin American Congress of Cognitive Therapies (I CLAPCCO), of what would become the Latin American Association of Cognitive Psychotherapies (ALAPCO).
