In 1996, onNovember 1st, the Argentine AssociationofCognitiveTherapy (AATC) invitedcolleaguesfromBrazil (Bernard Rangé, Paulo Knapp and Cristiano Nabuco de Abreu), Chile (Augusto Zagmuttand Roberto Opazo) andUruguay (Raquel Zamora) toparticipate in the 1st Latin American Symposium in Buenos Aires/Argentina, withtheaimofbringingtogethercognitivetherapistsfromthisregionandpromotingspaces for dissemination, developmentandtheoreticalandclinicalexchange. This meeting wasconsideredthefoundationof ALAPCO, and a fewyears later it becameknown as theFirstLatin American CongressofCognitiveTherapies (I CLAPCCO), ofwhatwouldbecometheLatin American AssociationofCognitivePsychotherapies (ALAPCO).
